Testosterone Terrier

I regularly take the tram to and from the city center of Ghent and I’ve found that there is a pattern involving the occurrence of unusual events and my presence on the tram. The other day I was just on my way home after a long day of classes at Ghent University and I was allowing my brain a few moments of relaxation while I enjoyed the warmth of the tram car, watching people going about their day on the other side of the glass. We went slowly past the Kouter and that was when I saw something unusual.

The cat adventure begins.

The cat adventure begins.

Since we moved into our new house, both of us have been looking forward to adding a cat to our household. We had been visiting a lot of animal shelters and making preparations in the house during the last month, and finally on Tuesday we were able to bring home our new cat. We adopted him from the animal shelter in Ghent. Unfortunately, he had an infection and had to stay at the shelter for a few weeks to recover, but that gave us enough time to make sure we were ready to bring him home. It seems like it was worth the wait because he is proving to be a very sweet cat. I decided to introduce him on OppositeOcean because I’m sure he will be a source of inspiration in future funny animal-related blog posts.

Curious neighbor cat

Anyone that knows me in person or even perhaps follows me on twitter can realize that I have a bit of an animal addiction which is nurtured by endless youtube videos and cute overload photos of animal-adorableness.  When I moved to Spain in August of 2010 I was left with no option but to find a new home for my little Zoey.  I couldn’t have asked for a better home for her to go to and thanks to her new owners’ blog posts about the continuation of her unique and quirky antics I know that Zoey is doing just fine.  With the absence of Zoey and the new responsibilities of living in Spain (a new country, a new language, few friends or connections) I felt that animals were really missing from my life.  They were everywhere in Spain but I didn’t feel quite normal going to the park and asking everyone if I could pet their dog.
